Bedtime Story Books

People choose bedtime story books for different reasons.  A child might choose bedtime story books for their illustrations, or because their parents have been reading them bedtime story books for years.  Parents might choose bedtime story books for their calming nature, or because they are a favorite.  Based on the title, one might think that Stromple and the Super-Huge Temper Tantrum would be a choice for daytime reading.  I’ve found, however, that reading the book after a day when being good little souls hasn’t come easy for my children, this book serves as a way to reflect, “say sorry” and end the day on a positive note.

The book begins with Mama asking Stromple to clean his room just as his favorite cartoon is about to begin.  Stromple is a strong-willed young “man”, and, although he knows it’s not a good choice, he begins to throw a temper tantrum.  His tantrum takes him through the story, showing the reader how his actions affect more than just himself.

Why should it be one of your bedtime story books?

At the end of the book, Stromple returns home to his Mama, who has watched and worried from home.  He apologizes and vows to “try very hard” not to throw a tantrum like that again.  Mama, in turn, forgives him, asks him never to worry her like that again, and tells him, “I love you too much to live without you.”

So, although you might not think a title like Stromple and the Super-Huge Temper Tantrum would typically make the list of bedtime story books, it works in my house perfectly!  It winds down a hectic day with fun, rhyming words, great illustrations, and a reconnection that some days really need!  Add it to your list of bedtime story books
